I would like to welcome you to Mt. Spurr and another exciting year of physical education. My goal is to help students develop a strong interest in staying physically active. Our lessons will follow the Anchorage School District curriculum, but I will also be adding a few extras to help meet the needs of all our students.
Many activities will involve cooperative learning and critical thinking skills as well as individual physical activities. Ice skating, snowshoeing, volleyball, basketball, golf, circus arts, badmiton, gymnastics, floor hockey, basketball, football, soccer, jump roping, rope climbing, ultimate frisbee, cargo net climbing, parachute games, sport stacking, softball, chasing and fleeing activities as well as sledding are examples of activities we will be working on during the school year.
Two very popular end-of-the year events are our annual field day that includes over 25 different stations, and the 6th grade vs. the staff kickball game.
I also offer an before and after school sports program which may include cross-country running for grades kindergarten through 6th, Cross-Country Jamboree, Native Youth Olympics for grades 1st through 6th, and an after-school sports club for grades 4th through 6th which includes flag football, wiffle ball, floor hockey, basketball, and soccer. Permission slips will be sent home for all sports club activities and you may also check on my web site for more information.
I look forward to working with you and your children. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like to volunteer.
